Surfside pet groomer lends helping hand in oil spill clean-up

Surfside Beach, SC - SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A Grand Strand pet grooming business is hoping its efforts behind the clippers will aid oil spill clean-up efforts along the Gulf Coast.

Annie's Groomin' Tails, located along US-17 in Surfside Beach, has begun collecting cat and dog hair that will be turned over to Matter of Trust, a non-profit organization that turns pet and human hair into booms and matting.

"We all have to do something to help the spill," owner Ann Marie Saunier said. "It's destroying the environment."

Once delivered to the Gulf Coast, the booms and matting created by Matter of Trust will be used as a tool to help absorb oil leaking from a sunken rig.

Annie's Groomin' Tails has also gathered donations from other salons and groomers to send out with their shipment of fur.

As of Wednesday afternoon, 20 pounds have been collected.
