Lake City man charged with stealing from trio of churches

Lake City, SC - LAKE CITY, SC (WMBF) - A Lake City man is in jail for allegedly burglarizing three area church and causing more than $10,000 in damage, authorities say.

Gabriel William Howard, 29, was arrested Monday and charged with two counts of malicious injury to a place of worship, three counts of third degree burglary and one count of grand larceny.

Investigators with the Florence County Sheriff's Office say Howard broke into Lee's Tabernacle Church and Camp Branch Pentecostal Holiness Church near Scranton, as well as the Independent Methodist Church near Johnsonville, where they say Brown stole the church van.

FCSO officials say Howard stole a number of items from the churches, including a television and a safe, and caused more than $10,000 damage to one.

Howard is being held at the Williamsburg County Detention Center on other charges.
