SCDPS: 5 killed on state roadways over weekend

SOUTH CAROLINA (WMBF) - Five people were killed in weekend traffic accidents on South Carolina roadways, according to weekly statistics released from the South Carolina Department of Public Safety.

Of the five fatalities reported, only one victim was reported as wearing a seatbelt. Four others, officials said, were not wearing a seatbelt at their time of death.

As of May 23, 300 people have died on South Carolina roadways, compared to 332 highway deaths during the same time period in 2009.

    MARION COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Police say a suspect is in custody Tuesday after a brief manhunt through the Zion community in Marion County. Mullins Police Chief Michael Bethea says the suspect was wanted for operation of a stolen vehicle. Authorities responded to the call around 11 a.m. Tuesday morning according to Bethea.
