Volunteers honored at American Red Cross banquet

Myrtle Beach, SC - MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The Coastal South Carolina Chapter of the American Red Cross is getting ready to celebrate the efforts of volunteers and community members who have assisted in area emergencies.

The ARC's annual Meeting/Volunteer Recognition Banquet will be held June 3 at Horry-Georgetown Technical College in Myrtle Beach. Members from Georgetown, Horry and Williamsburg counties will attend the event, beginning at 6 p.m.

Event organizers have announced Charlotte Lunsford Berry will highlight the event as a guest speaker. For the last 30 years, Berry has been a major contributor to the efforts of the National American Red Cross, serving in the 1980s as the national chairwoman of volunteers for the American Red Cross.

She has served on the Red Cross National Board of Governors and as chapter board chair for the Central South Carolina Chapter in Columbia, where she is a current board member and founding chair of the Tiffany Circle,

As recognition for all of her hard work, she received the Order of the Palmetto in 2002 from then-S.C. Gov. Jim Hodges, and in 2004 received the Cooperative Ministry Outstanding Community Service Award.
