Florence, SC - FLORENCE, SC (AP) - The case against a man accused of shooting a South Carolina police officer to death will be prosecuted in a different jurisdiction.

Florence County Solicitor Ed Clements said the death of 29-year-old Florence police officer Matthew Clayton hits too close to home for his office to be objective. Clements says he has asked Horry County Solicitor Greg Hembree to try the case.

Clayton was killed in his Florence home in February. He had been an officer for three years.

Brady Johnson of Effingham is charged with voluntary manslaughter. The 22-year-old also faces a federal weapons charge.
