We are now in the middle of May and many of the events designed to help offset the loss of biker business are taking shape. With any new venture there will be events that work and events that flop, so it will take some time before the new May ultimately reveals itself.
Consider This: Last week's grand opening of the boardwalk brought some nice crowds, and the area was bustling with visitors and activities. The majority of businesses showed steady traffic and many of the establishments were packed with customers.
One of the bigger projects, Coastal Uncorked, kicked off this week and culminates with the weekend trolley tour as the featured event. Organizers are expecting this unique event to prove popular with visitors and locals alike. Coming up Memorial Day weekend is the Memorial Day parade and concerts with performers and stars, including two from our own Days of our Lives, which WMBF will broadcast live.
It will be interesting to see how these events affected the market when a full recap of May takes place. Let's hope the numbers are up from 2009. Regardless of your thoughts on what should have transpired with the bikers, increasing the number of guests and overall revenue is critical for the future success of the area.
