Horry Co. Council votes down plans for controversial helipad

Horry County, SC - HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A motion to disapprove a new helicopter tour company from establishing itself beside Freestyle Music Park has passed unanimously at an Horry County Council meeting Tuesday.

Sunshine Helicopters proposed plans for a helipad near Freestyle Music Park at a Horry County Infrastructure and Regulation meeting in May, drawing with it harsh criticism from committee members.

The helipad, according to officials, would have been situated near a rollercoaster at Freestyle Music Park and in the flight path of jets traveling to the Myrtle Beach International Airport.

After hearing arguments from Sunshine Helicopters on the chosen location, the Horry County Infrastructure and Regulation Committee sent the proposal to a full council with disapproval.

Horry County Council members disapproved and dropped the proposal with a unanimous vote.
