CHARLOTTE, NC – Coastal Carolina junior outfielder Rico Noel has been named the Big South Conference's Choice Hotels Player of the Week, and Chanticleers hurler Anthony Meo has been named The Crons Brand Pitcher of the Week for games played May 10-16.
Noel batted .500 (6-12) with six runs scored, three RBI, two doubles, two home runs, eight walks and five stolen bases in four wins last week, which included a three-game sweep of Liberty.
He started the week going 3-4 with a home run and two stolen bases in the 10-4 win over Winthrop last Monday. He also had a walk and an outfield assist in the victory. Noel then went 2-3 with a double, home run, two walks and a steal in Friday's 5-2 win at Liberty.
In game two, Noel drew four walks, was hit-by-pitch, scored twice and stole two more bases in the 7-1 victory. He ended the week going 1-4 with a run scored and a double in Sunday's 5-0 win over the Flames. Noel registered a .714 on-base percentage and 1.167 slugging percentage last week.
Meo earned his Big South-leading 11th win of the season in Coastal Carolina's 5-2 victory at Liberty last Friday night to open a key Conference series featuring the League's top two squads.
Meo went 7.1 innings and allowed just five hits and two runs (both in the eighth inning) to snap the Flames' 15-game Conference win streak. He struck out four, walked just one batter and induced 14 fly ball outs. He permitted just one runner to reach second base in his first seven innings, which included a 25-minute lightning delay while pitching in the third inning.
