CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - It's a race in the fight against cancer, and now hundreds are expected to gather next Friday for Conway and Aynor's annual Relay for Life event.
Officials with the American Cancer Society, the non-profit organization hosting the event, said the 12-hour affair will be held at the Bay Villiage Mini Mall on May 21 from 7 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The event is expected to kick-off at 7 p.m. with a recognition of cancer survivors, who will walk in a "Survivors Lap" at the beginning of the night. Any cancer survivor from the Conway or Aynor area are invited to walk the first lap and celebrate their victory against cancer.
Later in the night, participants will pause for a moment of silence as a luminaria ceremony takes center stage to remember and honor those who lost the battle against cancer.
Relay for Life events are held overnight as individuals and teams camp out at an athletic track, park or other gathering area, with the goal of keeping at least one team member on the track or pathway at all times throughout the evening.
