Palin to endorse Haley in SC governor race

Columbia, SC - COLUMBIA, SC (WMBF) - Arizona Sen. John McCain's runningmate in the 2008 presidential election is expected to appear in Columbia Friday to endorse Rep. Nikki Haley (R-SC) for governor.

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will be alongside Haley at an event endorsing her run for South Carolina governor at 5:30 p.m. The location of the event, however, has yet to be announced by Haley's campaign.

"It is a tremendous honor to receive Gov. Palin's endorsement. [Sarah] has energized the conservative movement like few others in our generation. She has helped millions of Americans find the power of their voice," Haley said in a prepared statement Thursday. "I am extremely proud that she has offered her support to my candidacy."

Earlier Friday, Haley is scheduled to tour the state with former South Carolina first lady Jenny Sanford. The two have planned a public appearance in Charleston and private events in Charleston and Hilton Head Island.

Haley's campaign canceled a public event in Myrtle Beach to accommodate the endorsement.

Haley has been serving South Carolina as a Republican legislator from Lexington since 2005.
