FL man dies in US-17 motorcycle, car accident

Myrtle Beach, SC - MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The Horry County Coroner's Office has released the name of a man killed in a motorcycle accident along US-17 Bypass early Thursday evening.

Chief Deputy Coroner Tamera Willard confirmed James Marlow, 31, of Ocala, FL, died of multiple trauma after a car collided with his motorcycle just after 5 p.m.

Lance Cpl. Paul Brothers, spokesman for the South Carolina Highway Patrol, said the accident occurred in an area between Farrow Parkway and Harrelson Boulevard. The motorcycle, driven by Marlow, was rear-ended by a 1987 Oldsmobile as it slowed down to make a left turn off of US-17 Bypass.

Marlow, according to investigators, was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

A second person riding on the motorcycle was transported by ambulance to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. Officials have not commented on the passenger's condition.

The driver of the Oldsmobile, identified as 18-year-old Gwendolyn T. Rich, of Myrtle Beach, was uninjured and has been questioned by on-scene investigators. The Oldsmobile sustained left-side damage from the collision.

The accident remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol. No charges have been filed at this time.
