Myrtle Beach, SC - CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - Hotel and condo occupancy levels across the Grand Strand have recovered from a slight dip last week, according to researchers at Coastal Carolina University's Clay Brittain Jr. Center for Resort Tourism.
The newest edition of the center's Tourism Economy Study revealed during the week of May 2-8, midweek occupancy rates inched up 6.5 percent from 2009 levels. Researchers report weekend occupancy rates fared better, rising 8.8 percent.
Based on weekly observations, 73.9 percent and 48.4 percent of hotels and condos are reserved in Horry and Georgetown counties, respectively.
The Brittain Center forecasts hotel, condo-hotels and campsites will be 70 percent occupied through the weekend of May 14.
