Rescue crews rip up floor to save dog

Fort Meyers, FL - (NBC) - Firefighters tore through the floor of a Fort Myers, FL, home on Tuesday to rescue a dog trapped underneath.

"Heart breaking. He's my kids' animal," Regina Taylor said.

"We talked about tunneling under the house, but there was just no room and it would have been a long process," said Fort Myers Fire Department Captain Chuck Houser.

Firefighters ended up ripping up the floor of a closet right above the puppy, then crawled to his location.

After several hours, they succeeded in freeing the dog.

The black and white puppy's name is Eight Ball. He survived the rescue without a scratch.

"He's playing like nothing happened. He went under there, took a nap. Now he's having a great time," Houser said.
