Federal fugitive faces additional charges after arrest

Columbia, SC - COLUMBIA, SC (WMBF) - A 31-year-old from Greenville has been charged in a 10-count superseding indictment Wednesday, according to U.S. Attorney William Nettles.

Robert Gartrell Bowling faces charges of conspiracy to make, utter and possess counterfeit securities, possession of five or more false identification documents, aggravated identity theft, being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, and assaulting a federal officer.

Nettles said Bowling was wanted on federal fraud charges after his arrest by the Marshal Service in April while trying to flee a vehicle. During the car chase, Bowling made contact with a deputy before crashing his car into a tree in Pickens County.

The maximum penalty Bowling could face for his charges is life in prison.
