Myrtle Beach, SC - HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - A program offering high-achieving students in Horry County to take courses in humanities, math, science, creative arts and technology is accepting applications for 2010 courses.
Applications for the 2010 Summer Scholars program will be accepted through May 17 for students in grades 3-11. Students are permitted to elect four courses that last one week each.
Classes, according to Horry County Schools spokeswoman Teal Britton, will begin June 14-17 and June 21-24. Morning classes will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon, while afternoon be held from 12:30 to 4 p.m. at the Academy for Arts, Science, and Technology.
Course fees are as follows:
One class - $125
Two classes - $225
Three classes - $325
Four classes - $425
Scholarships are available for identified gifted and talented or high achieving students who are eligible for free lunch.
A variety of classes are available to students to choose from including: robotics, blogging, crime scene investigation, the history of rock and roll, drama, digital imaging, creative writing, multimedia poetry, mosaics, music composition and sign language.
