WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - Officials confirmed an earthquake hit the West Ashley area shortly after 5 a.m. Wednesday.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake was centered near the Clemson Research Center on Savannah Highway. It registered a 2.8 on the Richter scale.
Mild shakes have been reported from residents in Summerville, Ladson, North Charleston, and other surrounding areas. No damaged has been reported so far.
