Rainier, OR - (NBC) - A bald eagle is recovering after being found shot on an Oregon beach.
Wildlife officials say a couple in Rainier found the eagle last month.
An X-ray revealed the bird has nearly three dozen shotgun pellets lodged throughout her body. Her left eye is now blind and veterinarians say if it can't be repaired she won't be able to hunt and can't be returned to the wild.
Bald eagles are a legally protected species. If the shooter is caught they could face a $6,200 fine and a year in jail.
