NC Coast Guard ship tapped for Gulf oil clean-up

Atlantic Beach, NC - ATLANTIC BEACH, NC (WMBF) - A Coast Guard ship based in Atlantic Beach, NC, is heading to the Gulf of Mexico to lend a helping hand in the ongoing oil clean-up efforts.

Officials say the Coast Guard Cutter Elm is scheduled to depart from port Tuesday afternoon with 47 members on board.

Crew members on the 225-foot cutter will use booms to funnel the oil into an area that can be pumped out and disposed of.
