Police: 1 dead in MB shooting, car accident

Myrtle Beach, SC -

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Police in Myrtle Beach are investigating what led to a shooting and car accident that killed one man Monday night.

According to Sgt. Dave Cook with the Myrtle Beach Police Department, emergency dispatch received a call around 7:15 p.m. regarding a shooting victim and car accident at 1917 Mr. Joe White Ave.

Upon arrival to the scene, police found a man lying on the sidewalk and the driver of a tan Cadillac car who was shot in the ribs. Investigators said the man found on the sidewalk was uninjured, and claimed his vehicle was carjacked by the injured driver.

An ongoing investigation by Myrtle Beach Police revealed the man was shot while committing an armed robbery and carjacking at Sandy Gate Apartments.

The man behind the wheel of the Cadillac was transported to the Grand Strand Regional Medical Center where he later died. Horry County Coroner Robert Edge identified him as Alan Williams, 26, of Loris. Edge said an autopsy will be performed on his body at GSRMC.

A valet at Master's, a Myrtle Beach strip club located near the scene of the shooting, said he witnessed a man running down the street shouting, "He's got a gun." Instead of getting involved in the unfolding incident, he said he called 911 for help.

"I could tell he was really panicked," said the valet. "I thought it would be a good idea [to call 911]. It's better to be safe than sorry."

The man said shortly after he placed the call, Myrtle Beach Police showed up to find the tan Cadillac wrapped around a utility pole.

Myrtle Beach Police have not made an arrest in the incident. Investigators commented they found a gun inside of the wrecked car, but have not confirmed who pulled the trigger.
