Little River, SC - LITTLE RIVER, SC (WMBF) - Firefighters with Horry County Fire Rescue have successfully extinguished a house fire early Monday evening in the Little River section of Horry County.
Leslie Yancey, spokeswoman for Horry County Fire Rescue, said the fire sparked just before 6 p.m. in the 8300 block of Highway 90. Yancey said the inside of the house was gutted and severely damaged from the flames, but the outside of the structure remained in tact.
One person was inside of the home at the time of the fire. The victim was transported to an area hospital for precautionary reasons.
Yancey said Tuesday the fire was caused by improperly disposed smoking material.
Emergency crews temporarily closed down parts of Highway 90 as firefighters attempted to control the blaze. It has since been re-opened to traffic.
