Police: Employee dies after apparent robbery

Bennettsville, SC - BENNETTSVILLE, SC (WMBF) - One man has died following a Monday morning shooting and apparent robbery at a convenience store in Bennettsville.

According to Chief Larry McNeil of the Bennettsville Police Department, officers were called to the Quik Stop at 157 Marshall St. around 11:30 a.m. Police believe the suspect went into the store, robbed the clerk and proceeded to shoot him once in the chest.

McNeil said the clerk was taken to Marlboro Park Hospital, where he was taken into surgery and died just after 4 p.m. Marlboro County Coroner Tim Brown identified the victim as Samer Hussein, 44.

The shooting remains under investigation, but McNeil confirmed no arrests have been made. Police said it appears the suspect or suspects fled from the scene of the shooting on foot.
