Florence, SC - FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) – South Florence High School has been selected for a program which helps students learn about better energy solutions.
Through a partnership between Progress Energy Carolinas and the Carolina Hurricanes Kids 'N Community Foundation, South Florence is one of five winning schools across the Carolinas that has been chosen to be a Progress Energy SunsSense School.
The program includes the installation of a 2 kilowatt solar PV system at the school valued at more than $20,000. The system is designed to encourage students at South Florence High to study energy production and develop energy solutions.
A ceremony will be held May 10 at 9:30 a.m. to formally announce the decision and unveil the system.
The PV arrays and educational materials will enable teachers to integrate renewable energy learning opportunities in the classroom. Students will be able to learn about the panels' real-time electricity production.
