Lumberton, NC - LUMBERTON, NC (WMBF) - A U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jet is set to highlight a weekend event honoring military families in North Carolina, U.S. Congressman Mike McIntyre announced Wednesday.
The jet is scheduled to fly over the Lumberton Municipal Airport during the Mid-Atlantic Fly-In and Sport Aviation Convention on May 14-16.
"This special flyover will honor those who have put their lives on the line to secure our freedoms and will honor their families who have sacrificed so much for our nation's security," McIntyre said in a prepared statement Wednesday.
Three other military aircraft will be on display at the event, including a UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter and an LUH-72 helicopter from the North Carolina National Guard. A Cobra helicopter from Marine Corps Air Station New River near Camp Lejeune will join the two other aircrafts.
McIntyre is a senior member of the Armed Services Committee in the U.S. House of Representatives and was asked by Danny Freeman of the Mid-Atlantic Fly-In Board to obtain the flyover.
