Hartsville, SC - HARTSVILLE, SC (WMBF) - Progress Energy is planning to test its alert notification sirens in a 10-mile area around the company's Robinson Nuclear Plant on Thursday, May 20.
Progress Energy will conduct the test from 1-3 p.m. in cooperation with Chesterfield, Darlington, and Lee counties.
During the short duration test the sirens will sound for approximately 15 seconds, at least one time during the test, but they may sound more than once. Progress Energy conducts the short duration test every three months.
In the event of an emergency at the Robinson Plant, the sirens would alert the public to tune to local radio and television stations for information and instructions. The sounding of the sirens does not mean the public should evacuate, but is intended to notify the public to tune to local radio and television stations for Emergency Alert System (EAS) information and instructions. The Emergency Alert System will not be activated during these siren tests.
