Man shot in jaw during service station robbery

Hartsville, SC - HARTSVILLE, SC (WMBF) - Hartsville Police are looking for the suspect who shot a man in the mouth during an attempted robbery Monday night.

According to Hartsville Police Chief Tim Kemp, a man and his wife were leaving a service station located at 914 S. Fifth Street with the night's bank deposits around 10:15 p.m. when a man approached them with a gun and attempted to rob the man.

According to Kemp, the woman screamed and the man made a noise to get the suspect's attention. The suspect fired the gun twice at the man, and a bullet hit him in the jaw.

Kemp said the suspect fled without any of the money.

The victim drove to a nearby Bank of America, where he called police. Kemp said the victim's injury was only a flesh wound and was minor.

Investigators used a dog and search team to track the suspect, but were unable to find any leads.
