MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Tommy Fraser waited and waited through the entire NFL Draft, but didn't hear his name called. Fortunately for the CCU product, his wait after the draft wasn't a long one.
"[I] watched the draft with my family, I was excited. Not too much happened during the draft," said Fraser. "About 30 minutes after the draft, my agent called and let me know we were going to camp with the [New Orleans] Saints."
The Carolina Forest High School alum was invited to the Saints rookie training camp. He left the Grand Strand for the Crescent City on Thursday. Fraser said he also received interest from the Atlanta Falcons.
Fraser said the Saints liked his speed and ability to catch passes. He also credits another former CCU fullback who, like Fraser, went undrafted, with his success: San Diego Chargers fullback Mike Tolbert.
"Actually I just spoke with [Tolbert] last night," said Fraser. "He texted me and congratulated me and told me we'd be in touch. He told me if I ever needed him, to hit him up. I think he's definitely set a pathway for me and my future."
Fraser knows there's still a lot of work ahead if he wants to make the Saints roster. He's hopeful he can earn a roster spot with the defending Super Bowl champions.
"After I make the NFL roster, it will definitely be a dream come true," said Fraser. "I'm excited just to get the chance."
