NMB Public Safety Officers participate in Relay for Life

North Myrtle Beach, SC - NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The American Cancer Society Relay for Life event was held on April 23rd at the North Myrtle Beach High School.

This annual event helps raise money and bring awareness to the millions of people who fight with cancer. The event is also held in memory of those who have lost the fight against cancer.

Seven members of the North Myrtle Beach Department of Public Safety kicked off the relay this year by running from 46th Avenue South in Windy Hill to the North Myrtle Beach High School on Sea Mountain Highway, approximately 7.2 miles.

Motorists honked and cheered in support of the runners, and store owners and patrons came out of their businesses to cheer on the runners.

All seven runners completed the run and upon arrival at the Relay for Life event, they had the opportunity to meet Giovanna Silk-Nordeen with escort, a 9-year-old girl battling leukemia. All the runners felt this run was a small gift that they could give compared to the continuing struggle that Giovanna is dealing with.
