CHARLOTTE, NC – Coastal Carolina's Jason Jensen has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Track and Field Athlete of the Week, while Lady Flame Jaime Watson was tabbed the Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Week, the League announced today.
Jensen, a sophomore from Myrtle Beach, S.C., set a meet and facility record with a mark of 198' 1" in the hammer throw at the Coach O Invitational in Troy, Ala. over the weekend. His toss was the fourth-best throw in Coastal Carolina history and is currently ranked No. 2 in the Big South and 26th in the NCAA East Region.
Watson, a redshirt senior from Ravenna, Mich., posted a 2:07.94 800-meter split in the Distance Medley Relay (DMR), and followed with a 2:09.53 lead-off split in the 4x800 at the Penn Relays over the weekend. Her split in the DMR was the third-fastest out of 30 teams in the meet as the Lady Flames finished 5th in their heat and 16th overall. Of the 39 4x800 meter relay teams, Watson's split was the 4th-fastest time overall as Liberty finished at No. 16 in the event.
Honorable mentions for the men include VMI's 4x800 meter relay team of Ermin Mujezinovic, Dean Gonsalves, Ian McGinn and Felix Kitur. The quartet posted a time of 7:35.73 to finish 11th in the collegiate section of the race at the Penn Relays. The Keydets finished ahead of Navy, Boston College, Wake Forest and Big South foe Liberty.
