Myrtle Beach, SC - HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - People who use the Coast RTA to move about the Grand Strand will have fewer coins in their pockets after the group's board of directors unanimously approved a 50-cent rate hike.
Most riders will see the full increase; however, disabled and student riders will see only a 25-cent hike, according to officials.
Coast RTA officials began eyeing the fare increase after Horry County Council did not include a requested $500,000 budget request. The RTA was not originally included in the county's budget for the 2011 fiscal year.
At a budget retreat earlier in April, council members weighed the pros and cons of funding the Coast RTA for another year. County spokeswoman Lisa Bourcier says the challenge would be finding where the council could take money from to help support the RTA.
