Clio, SC - CLIO, SC (WMBF) - Strong storms passing through the Border Belt Tuesday afternoon have cut off power and damaged buildings in Clio, according to law enforcement officials.
Chief Earlie Thomas of the Clio Police Department says strong winds ripped the roof off of a wrecking service building and sent a tree crashing into a home on Main Street. Downed trees were also reported by emergency management officials on Calhoun Street and Eden Street.
Additional damage from the string of storms was also reported by the National Weather Service in Dillon County, where trees and power lines covered McKays Bridge Road.
Officials with Progress Energy report approximately 1,052 customers in Clio were without power as the storm rolled through the town. Thomas says the town lost power just after 3:30 p.m.
