Hartsville man killed in crash in Darlington Co.

Darlington County, SC - DARLINGTON COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Accident reconstruction crews are on the scene of a crash Tuesday morning that killed one person in Darlington County.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 8:40 a.m. in the 2700 block of Center Road near US-15. One person was killed in the crash.

Darlington County Coroner Todd Hardee identified the victim as Casey Antwine Hawkins, 28, of Hartsville.

Officials say a 2002 Honda Accord was southbound on Center when Hawkins veered off the right side of the road, overcorrected and lost control. The vehicle flew off the side of the road and slammed into a tree.

Hawkins was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

Hardee said Hawkins was alone in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

This incident remains under investigation by the Darlington County Coroner's Office and the SCHP Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT).
