SC named partial recipient of national broadband grant

SOUTH CAROLINA (WMBF) - A move to help bridge the technological divide among Americans is impacting South Carolina, as part of a $28.5 million Sustainable Broadband Adoption grant was awarded to the state Monday.

According to officials with the U.S. Department of Commerce, the grant will help build a program stacked with computer training, wireless Internet access, broadband awareness marketing and online content for residents of 159 affordable and public housing developments in 50 cities across 31 states.

States included in Monday's grant announcement include North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Georgia.
