Shelter opening for Darlington area residents affected by tornado

Darlington, SC - DARLINGTON, SC (WMBF) - Darlington County is opening a shelter to assist residents that were affected by Sunday night's EF-2 tornado, and area church groups are offering assistance for debris removal.

The shelter will open at 6 p.m. Monday at the Darlington Recreational Department located at 300 Sanders St. in Darlington. Call 843-398-4450 or 398-4441 to tell officials if you need shelter.

Darlington County has two church disaster response teams that will cut any trees into manageable size and remove any debris free of charge.

The response teams will also place tarps on roofs if needed.

Residents should call 843-398-4453 to arrange for the disaster response teams to remove the trees and debris.
