Francis Marion golfers tied for 9th at Penn State's Rutherford Intercollegiate

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA – Seniors Christopher Couch and Matt Jackson each shot opening rounds of 75 on Saturday (April 24) as Francis Marion University is tied for ninth in the team standings at Penn State's 34th-annual Rutherford Intercollegiate Golf Tournament.

Due to darkness, the second round was suspended at 7:21 p.m. and will be completed at 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning.

The host Nittany Lions fired a 291 opening-round to place ahead of second-place Ohio University (298).  Bowling Green State University is third at 299.  The Patriots are tied with St. Bonaventure University and George Washington University at 309.

Couch and Jackson are tied for 16th position, while FMU freshman Sebastian Backlund is tied for 22nd place after shooting a 76.  Freshmen Kenneth Svanum and Travis Gantt both shot 83 and are tied for 69th place.

With the conclusion of the second round Sunday morning, there will be an hour break to re-pair the participants. Following the re-pairing, groups will proceed with the third round at roughly 10 a.m. in a shotgun format.

Penn State senior Kevin Foley and junior Tommy McDonagh join Ohio's Tim Gusweiler atop the individual leader board at 1-under-par 70.
