Florence, SC - FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - A group of students from Wilson High School will be heading to Arlington, VA, this weekend to compete in a competition that tests their knowledge of the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
The students from Wilson High School will be appearing in the 23rd annual "We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution National Finals" after winning the South Carolina competition, which allowed them to advance into the national finals.
During the competition that begins on Saturday, students will serve as expert witnesses testifying on constitutional issues in a simulated congressional hearing. Each class will be divided into six groups and graded on their opening presentation and on answers to follow-up questions by a panel of judges.
The national finals judges include state Supreme Court judges, public officials, political scientists, historians, educators, attorneys, journalists and We the People alumni.
The team traveling to Arlington from Wilson High School includes: Yvonne Rhodes (teacher), David Dong, Constance Gabriel, Tim Jiang, Marisha Letki, Nina Panvelker, Priyanka Patel, Varoon Patel, Tyler Schuetz and Coleman Wells.
