6 arrested following 4-week narcotics investigation

Darlington, SC - DARLINGTON, SC (WMBF) - A month-long narcotics investigation in Hartsville netted six arrests, according to Darlington County investigators.

According to the Darlington County Sheriff's Office, Combined Drug Units conducted the four-week undercover operation targeting drug distribution activity on Howard Street.

"We had received complaints about the activity around Pride Park, so the operation was conducted and had great success," said Hartsville Police Chief Tim Kemp.

Investigators seized cash, drugs and a handgun during the operation, which remains under investigation at this time. More arrest warrants are expected in the case.

"This operation is a step in the right direction in taken back the park from illegal drug activity," said Darlington County Sheriff Wayne Byrd.

In all, 20 arrest warrants were issued to six individuals, with more arrest to follow. Two of the individuals were fugitives wanted on state and federal probation charges.

  • William Paylor, 24, of Hartsville: Charged with two counts of distribution crack cocaine, two counts of distribution crack cocaine within proximity of school, distribution of marijuana, distribution of marijuana within proximity of a school, federal fugitive from U.S. Probation;

  • Josh Leon James Jr., 66, of Hartsville: Charged with possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine within proximity of a school;

  • Carlos Johnson Mack, 44, of Hartsville: Charged with distribution of crack cocaine, distribution of crack cocaine within proximity of a school, distribution of marijuana, distribution of marijuana within proximity of a school, possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine within proximity of a school;

  • Cynthia Gail Gilbert, 50, of Hartsville: Charged with possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine within proximity of a school;

  • Toure Demon Briggs, 28, of Hartsville: Charged with distribution of crack cocaine, distribution of crack cocaine within proximity of a school, fugitive from SC Probation & Parole;

  • Nicole Natavia Moses, 25, of Hartsville: Charged with distribution of crack cocaine, distribution of crack cocaine within proximity of a school.
