Florence business reopens after substance determined no threat

Florence, SC - FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - A Florence business reopened Wednesday for business as usual after it closed Tuesday because of a suspicious envelope containing and unidentified substance.

Investigators with the Florence County Sheriff's Office, Florence County Emergency Management and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division responded to the J.P. Morgan Chase at 2210 Enterprise Dr. Tuesday.

According to authorities, a preliminary analysis of the substance eliminated any viral, biological, explosive or radiological threat.

Investigators have not yet been able to identify the exact substance, but chemical experts and business officials felt the building was safe for employees to return to work.

The matter remains under criminal investigation at this time.
