HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – The balancing act between athletics and academics is never easy. Throw in some extra activities and accolades, and it can be downright difficult.
Carolina Forest softball senior right fielder Casey Shelton has quite the resume. She's in the top 10 of her class, National Honor Society, Art Honor Society and the list goes on. As she nears the end of her senior season, she says all the work excelling in all her activities was worth it.
"It is tough," said Shelton. "I do have to sacrifice staying up late all the time. It is tough, but I think it's worth it in the end."
Her coach sees Shelton as a role model for younger Panther players.
"I think she's taking three AP classes, maybe one more at Coastal," said Carolina Forest head coach Sarah Minchew. "She's doing that, she's here, bus rides home she's studying. She's just one of those very driven students."
Shelton plans to attend Winthrop University to study art history. She hopes to one day be a museum curator, possibly overseas.
