Surfside Beach, SC - SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Residents of Surfside Beach have filled the final vacant seat on the Surfside Beach Town Council Tuesday, following a run-off election between two candidates.
Two candidates were elected on April 6 to fill positions on the Surfside Beach Town Council, but a majority vote was not reached for the third open seat until Tuesday evening.
Candidate Rod Smith received the majority of votes with 410, while opponent Bill Rempfer received 208 nods.
Smith says he is a civic-minded citizen who has served on the town's Planning and Zoning committee for three years.
"I'll be an honest, diligent, hardworking person," Smith said. "I'll demand clean, honest, and sober government."
Smith will serve a four year term, which will begin in May.
