Wake may have caused Intracoastal accident Sunday

Myrtle Beach, SC - MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Officials with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources are investigating a boat accident on the Intracoastal Waterway Sunday evening.

According to DNR spokesman Robert McCollough, the accident occurred around 6 p.m. near the Grande Dunes when a small boat was trying to pass a larger boat in a narrow section of the waterway. McCollough said it appears the smaller boat got caught in the wake and capsized.

A father and son were thrown from the boat. Officials say the son was not seriously injured; however, the father is in critical condition at an area hospital.

DNR investigators were at the scene Monday talking with witnesses. The accident remains under investigation at this time.
