CHARLOTTE, NC – Presbyterian College first baseman Kenny Bryant (Goose Creek, S.C.) has been named the Big South Conference's Choice Hotels Player of the Week, while teammate pitcher Chris Powell (Wilmington, N.C.) has been named The Crons Brand Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for games played April 12-18, it was announced today by the League office.
Bryant batted .684 (13-19) to help PC to three wins in four games last week, including a Big South series victory over Charleston Southern. He had at least three hits in all four contests, scored two runs in each game (eight total) and also knocked in five runs. Bryant was 10-15 against the Buccaneers ( =.667), and was a home run shy of the cycle with a triple, double and two singles in Sunday's series finale. For the week, Bryant had two doubles, a .714 on-base percentage and slugged .895.
Powell scattered nine hits in eight innings of work to defeat Charleston Southern, 10-1 last Saturday. He struck out a career-high nine batters, did not issue a walk and allowed just an eighth inning run to improve his team-leading record to 5-1. Powell blanked the Buccaneers for the first seven innings and struck out two batters in four different frames. Powell's line last week: 1-0, 1.12 ERA, 8 IP, 9 H, 1 R/ER, 0 BB, 9 SO, 0 extra-base hits allowed.
