Plans for bike rally move forward in Atlantic Beach

Atlantic Beach, SC - ATLANTIC BEACH, SC (WMBF) - It's an annual event that draws thousands of motorcycles to the Grand Strand, and now leaders in Atlantic Beach say the 2010 Memorial Day Weekend Bike Rally is inching closer to reality.

The Atlantic Beach Town Council approved a second reading of an ordinance that allows for the annual event to take place the last weekend of May. Council members hope this year, a new plan to allow RV vehicles to purchase parking spots will earn the town a little extra money.

"We think we probably will have 40 or 50 [RVs] in every Bike Fest, and you know every dollar is a dollar that we can pay bills with," said Councilman Donnell Thompson.

Thompson says the city will charge $40 per spot during the Memorial Day Weekend Bike Rally. The event is slated to run May 27-31.
