CCU receives portion of $6.4 million research grant

Conway, SC - CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - Coastal Carolina University is receiving part of a $6.4 million grant aided at advancing research projects at a number of universities in South Carolina.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) announced the $6.4 million in grants have been awarded by the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the U.S. Department of Education.

Coastal Carolina University, according to Graham, will receive $154,557 for a project entitled " Collaborative Research: Regulation of CpNifS/CpSufE1-Mediated Iron-Sulfur Cluster Synthesis in Plant Plastids. Implications for Sulfur and Iron Metabolism and Selenium Tolerance." The grant was provided to the university by the National Science Foundation.

Other universities benefitting from the grant include: Clemson University, College of Charleston, Medical University of South Carolina and the University of South Carolina Research Foundation.
