NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Myrtle Beach resident Dustin Johnson was one of many PGA Tour stars at the Monday After the Masters celebrity pro-am golf tournament. Fans asking for his autograph weren't the only people who thought highly of Johnson's golf game.
One of the biggest names at the tournament was 2003 US Open Champion Jim Furyk. He said the Coastal Carolina alum Johnson has what it takes to make the US Ryder Cup team and has a lot of potential on the PGA Tour.
"He is a very good player, he's strong as a bull, hits the ball a mile but he's got all the aspects of the game," said Furyk. "You keep giving him more and more experience and he's going to be a player that wins a lot of golf tournaments for a lot of years. He has a lot of tools."
Fellow South Carolinian DJ Trahan led his pro-am team to win Monday After the Masters. He also sees Johnson as a player who will be a factor on the Tour for a while to come.
"We didn't mix in college at all when I was at Clemson and he was at Coastal, but I've played with him quite a bit on tour," said Trahan. "I've played with him the last two years at AT&T, and he won those events. He's a great player, a lot of game."
