Myrtle Beach, SC - MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Families gathered in the Grand Strand on Saturday in an effort to find a cure for lupus.
More than 200 people came together at Broadway at the Beach to walk in the inaugural Walk for Lupus in Myrtle Beach. The money raised at the event will go to support research, education and support services for people affected by lupus.
Organizers say it was a great opportunity for families and friends to come together to support one common cause.
"It helps to know that there is a support group," said organizer Mandy Walker, "that you're not the only one to feel so crummy or feel like you're going crazy because there are reasons why you feel so bad."
Organizers say they were able to raise more than $20,000 through the event, doubling their initial goal.
