31-year-old charged with theft of Corvette rims in NC

Brunswick County, NC - BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WMBF) - A 27-year-old man from Supply, NC, is facing stolen property and larceny charges following his arrest Thursday in Brunswick County.

Danny Keith Clanton has been charged by detectives with the Brunswick County South End Task Force on one count of felony possession of stolen property and one count of misdemeanor larceny. Clanton has also been charged by the Shallotte Police Department with one count of breaking and entering to a motor vehicle, in addition to one count of misdemeanor injury to personal property.

Investigators allege Clanton was spotted Thursday stealing a gas can from a residence in Calabash. Clanton was approached by deputies, who upon further investigation, were led to another location in Shallotte from evidence found in Clanton's vehicle.

Officials say Clanton had stolen property in his vehicle that had been removed from Ocean City Chevrolet in Shallotee on Wednesday night. Clanton had removed a pair of rims from a 2010 Chevrolet Corvette, causing damage in excess of $15,000 to the vehicle.

Clanton is currently incarcerated at the Brunswick County Detention Facility with a $20,000 secured bond.
