CCU: Hotel, condo occupancy makes 128% jump over weekend

Myrtle Beach, SC - HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Hoteliers and condo owners along the Grand Strand saw a drastic jump in occupancy rates during the week of April 4, according to new economic data collected by Coastal Carolina University's Clay Brittain Jr. Center for Resort Tourism.

Researchers report midweek occupancy levels grew 128.6 percent during the week of April 4, compared to the same time period in 2009. Occupancy rates averaged around 65.7 percent, while weekend numbers fell short of that rate at 62.8 percent.

Based on the observations of researchers and analysts at Coastal Carolina University, it is forecasted the average occupancy for a sample of hotels, condo-hotels and campsites during the weekend nights of April 16-17 will be at or above 60 percent.
