Oakland, CA - (NBC) - Ever since voters passed Prop. 215 in 1996, the use of marijuana for medical purposes has been technically legal in California.
There are cannabis clubs up and down the state where sick people with a prescription can purchase pot as medicine.
There is even a new marijuana mega store in Oakland called iGrow that is being called a Wal-Mart for weed. The 15,000-square-foot warehouse is a one-stop shop for everything connected to cannabis cultivation but the seeds. An on-site doctor issues recommendations and technicians provide hands on lessons to prospective growers.
Now, there is a new option for those wanting to grow their own pot. IGrow's Dahr Mann helped come up with a new concept that puts pot growing on wheels. Tom Patton with GrowOp Technologies partnered with the iGrow store to develop the product, which is a mobile marijuana growing station. They call the trailers "buds."
Patton and Mann say if you decide to move you could put it on the back of your truck and take it to your next home.
"The Little Bud is built so it literally can push right into your garage and again you just add electricity and water and you're good to go...or good to grow," Patton said.
Customer Dexter Gary, who is a lung cancer patient, is considering purchasing one.
"I think it's great. I think instead of having to buy lights and buy the growing material and the pots and everything, having that one complete system works for me. It's going to save me hundreds of dollars over the years," Gary said.
All you need is a 220-power hook up and tap water and you are ready to grow your own pot.
The stations sell for between $10,000 and $60,000.
The smallest is the size of a small container truck and the largest is a 53-foot-long big rig.
Each unit comes equipped with security cameras, so you can monitor your grow at all times.
The official unveiling of the budding business is this weekend at a hemp show in San Francisco.
The company was hoping to sell 40 for the entire year and they have already sold 37 with little to no advertising.
