CCU's Iglesias named Big South Player of the Week

Charlotte, NC -

From the Big South Conference:

CHARLOTTE, NC - Coastal Carolina catcher Jose Iglesias has been named the Big South Conference's Choice Hotels Player of the Week, while UNC Asheville's Ryan Dull and VMI reliever Michael Devine have been named The Crons Brand Co-Pitchers of the Week, respectively, for games played April 5-11, it was announced Monday by the League office.

Iglesias continued his stellar season at the plate this week, going 9-for-16 ( =.563) with three runs scored, 10 RBI and a .625 slugging percentage in four games.  Iglesias opened the week by going 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored in the 20-1 win over UNC Wilmington. He had a run-scoring double and a walk in the 10-9 win over High Point on Friday, and then went 3-for-5 with four RBI in the 14-4 win over the Panthers Saturday afternoon.

Iglesias ended the week with a 2-for-4 performance with two RBI in the 7-2 win, including an RBI groundout that gave CCU a 4-2 lead in the fifth.

In Friday's 10-9 win against the Panthers, Iglesias doubled home the first run to cut High Point's lead to 5-3 and started Coastal's comeback rally.  He reached base safely eight times in the High Point series and 11 times for the week, batted .636 with runners in scoring position and .538 with runners on base.

Dull tossed a complete game, six-hitter in a 2-1 win at Presbyterian College.  He allowed a lead-off triple and a groundout in the first inning, then tossed zeroes the rest of the way.  He did not walk a batter and held the Blue Hose to a .188 batting average in collecting his second complete game of the season.

Devine picked up his sixth and seventh saves of the season last week in consecutive games.  He worked a scoreless ninth in VMI's 3-2 win over James Madison last Wednesday, fanning two.  Two nights later, Devine recorded his third two-out save in a week, allowing just one base runner while striking out a pair in VMI's 7-5 win at Gardner-Webb.

He has now earned a save in each of his last four appearances, allowing just two hits and striking out nine in seven innings during the run.  Devine's line last week: 3.0 IP, 2 Svs, 1 H, 0 R/ER, 0 BB, 4 SO, 0.00 ERA.
