North Myrtle Beach, SC - NORTH MYRTLE BEACH,SC (WMBF) – The deadline to file your taxes is Thursday, and many tax preparers are working overtime to make sure everything gets done.
Martin Slapnik with Liberty Tax Services has a few recommendations for last minute filers. If you are planning to have someone prepare your taxes, research what documents you need to bring everything in with you.
Slapnik says all of their workers are putting in extra hours this week to make sure everything filed on time. He also says not filing is the worst thing you can do.
"Even if you can't afford to pay the money, file an extension," he said. "That gives you six months. It gives you until Oct. 15 to get everything together. There will still be penalties and interest; there will be interest on the money you owe, but the penalties will be reduced dramatically."
Slapnik says if you do not file by Thursday, you will be fined $100.
